Based on an idea from History Theatre’s Artistic Director, Ron Peluso (who also directed this production), Under the Stars & Stripes is a collection of stories submitted by several playwrights. The play is dedicated to Ron’s father and the millions of other everyday men and women who put their lives on the line in the most influential conflict of the 20th century: World War II.

Born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota in 1885, Harry Sinclair Lewis was the first American writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1930). Main Street, written in 1920, became Lewis’ most significant and enduring work, a story about a big-city woman who marries a small-town man, then endeavors to make unwelcome changes and give voice to many of the social and cultural attitudes that would eventually influence American life.
